Talk Nation Radio Election Coverage - Special with Brad Friedman on ACORN allegations 10-10-08

Talk Nation Radio Election Coverage 2008
with Dori Smith and with Brad Friedman of Brad Blog

RNC and McCain-Palin campaign allegations against ACORN during conference call 10-10-08. Republicans have launched systematic campaigns to use ACORN to discredit Democrats during several Presidential elections. By the time the press catches up to the truth, elections have already been held.

We're fact checking the conference in which Missouri Governor Matt Blunt and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis lashed out at the grass roots organization
ACORN, which operates on behalf of low and moderate income people nationally, doing voter registration and legislative advocacy. The press conference was only the latest in barrage of attacks launched by the McCain campaign and
republicans. That as more information comes out about abuses by the Palin administration in Alaska, McCain-Palin polls take another dive, and so does the stock market in the worst week in history for Wall Street.

In this special: Brad Friedman responds to allegations of "Voter Fraud" derived from examples of alleged "voter registration fraud" and then ACORN responds.

Austin King at the National ACORN Headquarters joined us by phone from New Orleans where he works to try to save families' homes from foreclosure.

Nicholas Graber-Grace of the Hartford and Bridgeport Connecticut offices of ACORN discusses the McCain-Palin campaign charges of voter registration fraud involving a case of allegations that ACORN registered a 7-year-old girl. The Republican registrar who brought the charge was invited by ACORN to sit down and present his challenges to registrations, ACORN flagged a small number of cards for the CT election enforcement commission. They are investigating to see if the case in question involves a card they had flagged.

Bruce Dorpalin of ACORN Housing Corporation, operating as a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit since the mid 1980s, works to help people get affordable mortgages without high adjustable rates and weird sub prime stuff. Over 100,000 mortgages have been created with this program over the past twenty years. They took on the sub prime banks engaging in scandalous abuses years before the term "sub prime" was used. He responds to allegations by some Republican supporters, commentators at the Washington Post and on CNN, charging that the poor caused the financial crisis.

We discuss claims made by Hugh Hewitt on Larry King Live October 9, 2008:
From the transcript at CNN.com

KING: Hugh, with the economic issue clearly favoring Obama -- and all the polls say that -- what does McCain do now in the remaining weeks?

HUGH HEWITT, HOST, "HUGH HEWITT SHOW," SUPPORTS MCCAIN: Well, the economic issue, Larry, is also tied to the character issue. Barack Obama has been wrapped up with ACORN for a very long time. ACORN is at the heart of the financial crisis. And not only were there attacks launched today on economics today, on the ACORN connection, McCain- Palin launched a number of attacks on Bill Ayers and on Rasheed Khalidi and a number of questions that go to the judgment that Barack Obama would bring to him to Washington, D.C. .

This can of worms will be haunting this election for months like the dimpled chads of florida.

Has anyone noticed some of the black democratic pundits repeatedly say that lower income republicans vote against their own financial interest but never mention the fact that rich liberal democrats are also voting against their own financial interest?

Sure glad elections are not about money...
